Abandoned Paper Factory
Germany visit 2025
The paper factory in Germany  located by the Wupper River , started in 1833 as a small textile mill.

In 1856, the Hilger brothers expanded the site significantly by establishing a large textile factory. The settlement was then renamed Wilhelmsthal. After financial troubles and a fire, the factory was converted into a paper mill in 1898 by Carl Cäsar. It produced train tickets and wallpaper, and later—starting in 1927—cement bags and specialty papers.

The factory closed in 1970 and has remained largely abandoned since.
Recently, plans have been announced to redevelop the historic site into a modern residential and co-working space.
