According to local stories, the church dates back to 1215, but around 1600 the church was occupied by the Dutch.

The same have completely destroyed the church and used it as a stable for their horses.

Around 1610 there is a confrontation between the Dutch and the Spaniards, who both want the church to own. The Spaniards eventually chased the Dutch away and restored the church to its original state.
Those works last more than 100 years, so the church was in terrible condition.

The church was then restored to its full glory around 1785.
For no known reason, the church closed its doors in 1970, and ever since it was a place where several archaeologists and thieves took off with the remains of the tombs.

Today, Gravestone Church is nothing more than a shelter for hundreds of pigeons, who take care of their needs wherever and whenever they want.
I know stories from the past of people who became unwell because of the pigeon poo smell.
Nowadays there are a lot of windows, so that poo air is somehow gone.

There is therefore not a single spot on the floor where there are no pigeon droppings. Several pigeons themselves also leave their lives here, and you will find them on the ground as well. Really a lurid location!
